Virgil van Dijk (pronounced [vɑn ˈdɛik]; Breda, North Brabant, The Netherlands, July 8, 1991) is a Dutch footballer. He plays defense and his current team is Liverpool Football Club of the English Premier League. He has been international with the Netherlands national team since 2015.
At the time of his signing for Liverpool FC, his transfer was the most expensive ever paid by a defender at a cost of 85 million euros. Title that in 2019 was seized by Harry Maguire for which Manchester United disbursed 88 million euros. euros.
Virgil Van Dijk started out in the Willem II quarry until, in 2010, he was transferred to Groningen.

On December 27, 2017, the signing of Van Dijk by Liverpool for 75 million pounds was made official, making him the most expensive defender in history ahead of Benjamin Mendy.
On January 5, he made his debut, including a goal, in the derby against Everton corresponding to the third round of the FA Cup to give victory to his team. However, at the start of the 20-2020 campaign he suffered a serious knee injury that would keep him out for more than six months.
Van Dijk made his international debut for the Netherlands team on October 10, 2015, in a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan in a Euro 2016 qualifying match.
